Drug Instruction
Prandin is prescribed to control type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes. The medicine is used extra to diet and exercise to lower blood sugar in adults who cannot control the diets, exercise, or diabetic medications all of by themselves. Prandin (Repaglinide)
may be used with other diabetes medicines.
Intake Instructions
Use Prandin as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.
Take Prandin by mouth at least 15 to 30 minutes before each meal. If you skip a meal, do not take the dose for the skipped meal. If you add an extra meal, take an extra dose with that meal.
Drug Class and Mechanism
Prandin is a meglitinide antidiabetic. It works to lower blood glucose (sugar) by stimulating the release of insulin from the pancreas gland. Prandin does not work in type 1 (insulin-dependent) diabetes, because in this condition the pancreas gland is not capable of making or releasing insulin.
Missed Dose
Should you miss a dose of this medicine please take it asap. If you find you have missed the previous dosage when it is almost time for your next dose, you should better skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Taking double or extra doses at once is not recommended. If more than one dose is missed, please contact your attending medical doctor or health care provider.
Storage
The best conditions to keep the medicine is at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C). Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is allowed. The container where the medicine is stored should be tightly closed. It should be also strictly protected from moisture, heat and light. Please make sure to retain the medicine away from pets and children.
Safety Precautions
Taking the medicine is not recommended in case:
you are allergic reaction to any component in Prandin
you have type 1 diabetes (insulin-dependent diabetes) or have elated ketone levels due to diabetes
you are ate the process of also taking gemfibrozil

There are some MEDICINES that step into INTERACTION with the medicine. Please inform your health care provider if you take some medicines, including:
Rifampin as it may low level Prandin 's effectiveness
Beta blockers (eg, propranolol), gemfibrozil, imidazoles (eg, ketoconazole), macrolides and ketolides (eg, erythromycin, azithromycin), (phenelzine), quinolones (eg, ciprofloxacin), or salicylates (eg, aspirin) as the risk of side effects, such as low blood sugar, may be raised higher
Insulin as it may increase the risk of Prandin 's side effects
Probable Side Effects
All medicines are liable to cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects.

Changes in vision; diarrhea; migraines; rapid and fast heartbeat; high levelled hunger; joint or back pain; nasal or chest congestion; irritation; sinus inflammation; sweating; teariness; tremor.
Please inform your health care provider if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the below – provided are applicable to you:
Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; hard breathing; tenseness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); chest pain.
