Phenergan (Promethazine)
Drug Instruction
Phenergan is prescribed for relieving allergy symptoms, involving hives and nasal accumulation. The medicine is determined to prevent and control pain and emesis during and after surgery. Phenergan (Promethazine) is also prescribed to help produce light sleep, and for the prevention of motion weariness. Please note that Phenergan is not to be used for the treatment of asthma. It may also be predetermined for other conditions as advised by your health care provider.
Intake Instructions
Please use the medicine under you health care provider’s strict control. Necessarily perform a check up of the label on the medicine for learning exact dosing instructions Take Phenergan by mouth with food or without it. If stomach upset occurs, please make sure to take with food to decrease stomach irritation.
In case you are using Phenergan for motion weariness, please take a dose at least 30 to 60 minutes before you begin traveling.
Drug Category and Mechanism
Phenergan is a phenothiazine antihistamine. It effects by blocking the sites where histamine acts.
Missed Dose
Should you miss a dose of this medicine please take it asap. If you find you have missed the previous dosage when it is almost time for your next dose, you should better skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Taking double or extra doses at once is not recommended. If more than one dose is missed, please contact your attending medical doctor or health care provider.
Storage
The container where the medicine is stored should be tightly closed. It should be also strictly protected from moisture, heat and light. Please make sure to retain the medicine away from pets and children.

Taking the medicine is not recommended in case:
you have allergic reactions to any component in Phenergan
you have austere central nervous system depression or are in a coma
you are also taking astemizole, cisapride, terfenadine, or tramadol
Some medical conditions may interact with the medicine. Inform your health care provider or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following are applicable to you:
you are pregnant/planning to become pregnant
you are a breast-feeding mother
you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine,
you are passing the treatment course with herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
you have allergic reactions to medicines, foods, or other substances
you have nervous system troubles, bone marrow depression, heart failure, a blood disease, glaucoma, enlarged eye pressure, low blood pressure, liver troubles, prostate problems, Parkinson disease, convulsions, or Reye syndrome
you commonly consume large amounts of alcohol
There are some MEDICINES that step into INTERACTION with the medicine. Please inform your health care provider if you take some medicines, including:
Charcoal or lithium as they may decrease Phenergan's effectiveness
Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors (eg, enalapril), astemizole, cisapride, common anesthetics (eg, thiopental), methyldopa, terfenadine, or tramadol as side effects, such as low blood pressure and convulsions may occur
ACE inhibitors (eg, enalapril), haloperidol, lithium, meperidine, metrizamide, monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) (eg, phenelzine), naltrexone, polypeptide antibiotics (eg, actinomycin), or trazodone as the risk of their side effects may be high levelled by Phenergan
Bromocriptine, epinephrine, levodopa, or pergolide as their effectiveness may be lessened by Phenergan
Probable Side Effects
Please inform your health care provider if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the below – provided are applicable to you:
Giddiness; vertigo; sore mouth; increased or lessened blood pressure; emesis; accidental blurred vision; rash; sluggishness; retching.

Austere allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; hard breathing; tenseness in the chest; tumor of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); sensitivity to light; unmonitored muscle movements; yellowing of skin or eyes.
