Hytrin
Name of the Drug
Hytrin (Terazosin)
Uses of the Drug
Hytrin is basically used to treat high blood pressure levels as well as to treat symptoms of BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia). Hytrin is considered to be a kind of alpha-blocker. It functions by relaxing the muscles in blood vessels, which in turn lowers the blood pressure. In BPH, the alpha-blockers function by relaxing the muscles surrounding urethra (the tube that helps in draining urine from bladder), which in turn improves the urinary symptoms.
How to Take
Hytrin should be taken as per the doctor’s recommendations. Take it possibly at the similar timing every day. The first dosage should be taken at bedtime for minimizing chances of fainting and dizziness. Hytrin can be taken orally with food. Even though you feel good do not stop taking Hytrin. Most of the people suffering from high levels of blood pressure don’t feel sick. This medicine should not be stopped without doctor’s advice. This in turn can lead to worse consequences. The doctors gradually decrease the dose of this medicine.
Drug Mechanism and Class
Hytrin is considered to be alpha 1 blockers that relaxes all the ???smooth muscles’ present in bladder neck, prostate, and arteries. Some more alpha blockers belonging to this class include alfuzosin (Uroxatral), doxazosin (Cardura), prazosin (Minipress) and tamsulosin (Flomax). Relaxing ???smooth muscles’ of arteries helps in the lowering blood pressure. Relaxing ???smooth muscles’ surrounding bladder neck helps in relieving urinary obstruction that is caused by prostate hypertrophy (enlarged prostate).
Missed Dose
If you ever miss a single dosage of Hytrin, try taking it as early as you can. If it’s time for the next dosage, then the already missed dosage should be skipped. You can now follow the regular schedule of dosing. 2 doses should not be taken simultaneously.
