Drug Instruction
Oxytrol is prescribed for adults with symptoms of inordinately active bladders that involves uncommon urges to urinate (urgency), the inability to control urination, and recurring urination. The medicine is also prescribed for the children, aged 6 years and older, with symptoms of detrusor muscle hyperactivity which is closely connected with neurological conditions, such as spina bifida.
Intake Instructions
Please make sure to follow the directions for using this medicine carefully use the medicine under you health care provider’s strict control. Do not open the hermetically sealed pouch until you intend to apply the patch. Please open the pouch and withdraw the shielding material from the patch to open up the adhesive. Drug Category and Mechanism
Oxytrol effects in two mechanism of action. Pressure of the smooth muscle of the distensible membranous sac is induced by the release of acetylcholine by the nerves inside the bladder and the sticking of the acetylcholine to receptors on the appearance of the muscle cells. Oxybutynin is carried into the blood suppresses unintentionally pressing of the bladders smooth muscle (spasms) by blocking the outburst of acetylcholine. This is named an anticholinergic effect. Oxytrol also performs a direct relaxing of the bladders external layer of muscle (the detrusor muscle).
Missed Dose
Should you miss a dose of this medicine please take it asap. If you find you have missed the previous dosage when it is almost time for your next dose, you should better skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Taking double or extra doses at once is not recommended. If more than one dose is missed, please contact your attending medical doctor or health care provider.
Storage Instructions
The best conditions to keep the medicine is at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C). Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is allowed. The container where the medicine is stored should be tightly closed. It should be also strictly protected from moisture, heat and light. Please make sure to retain the medicine away from pets and children.
Safety Precautions
Taking the medicine is not recommended in case:
Children under 5 years old. Please remember that this may cause giddiness or vertigo. Do not drive, use machinery, or do any actions which require mental alertness until you certainly inform how this medicine may affect you.
Please remember that the intake of the medicine alone, with other medicines, as well as with alcohol may decrease your capability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. Make a strict limit of alcoholic beverages. This medicine is liable to cause low levelled sweating. Please avoid overheating in hot weather or during exercise as heat stroke may happen while you are taking this medicine. Probable Side Effects
Please note that the use of oxytrol in patients who are treated with another medicine with anticholinergic effects will possibly result in a high level of frequency and/or sternness of anticholinergic side effects. Please remember that such effects involve dry mouth, infrequent or difficult evacuation of the bowels, confusion, changes in vision, urinary conservation (the inability to urinate) and a growth of heart rate or palpitations.
