Drug Uses
Cardura is used for treating high blood pressure and reducing and treating symptoms of non-malignant prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
How Taken
Cardura is taken by mouth with or without food.
After taking the first dose your blood pressure may drop sharply so it’s recommended to take the first dose before going to bed. If you wake up at the night, please stand up and lie down slowly and cautiously.
The doses and the schedule are defined by your doctor, please follow all instructions. Make sure you have told your doctor about all medications or dietary supplements that you take, if you do.
Drug Class and Mechanism
Cardura is an alpha-blocker and prevents the stimulation of the adrenergic receptors responsible for increased blood pressure. In treating of BPH it is used to weaken the symptoms by relaxing muscles around urethra.
Missed Dose
In case of missing a dose of Cardura, it's necessary to take it as soon as possible. If it happens almost in time for the next dose, it is recommended to miss taking the dose this time and then return to the usual dosing schedule. Taking 2 doses at once is prohibited.
Storage
Cardura must be stored at temperature of 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit). Keep away from children and pets.
Warnings Precautions
Please consult your doctor if anything of listed below applies to you:
- you are breast-feeding, pregnant or plan to become pregnant;
- you have an allergy of any nature;
- you have prostate cancer;
- you suffer from low blood pressure;
- you have any liver or kidney disorders.
Please tell your doctor if you take any other drugs or use any food supplements, because some of them may cause side effects if used with Cardura. Pay attention to the following notions:
- Interaction between Cardura and a phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor (like vardenafil) may cause dangerously low pressure.
- Interaction between Cardura and cimetidine or verapamil may cause severe fits of giddiness.
Possible Side Effects
Please consult your doctor if you are bothered any of the following USUAL side effects of the drug: nausea or diarrhea; back or stomach pain; feeling lassitude; nasal congestion and flu-like symptoms; headaches and fits of giddiness; dry mouth; feeling of a whirling motion.
Immediately seek for medical assistance if you suffer from any of the following SEVERE side effects: severe allergic reactions (itching, difficult breath, swelling, etc.); chest pain; abnormal heart rhythm; painful erection of the penis; hydrops of feet or hands; blurred vision; swooning.

Use Cardura only if it is prescribed for you. Do not advice to use it to other people and do not share it with other people, even if their symptoms resemble to yours. If the drug does not help, the symptoms do not fade away or even become worse, consult the doctor. If the drug works take care to get an extra portion before you use the current one.
