Drug Instructions
Aygestin is prescribed for treating some menstrual disorders or uterine problems (e.g., uncommon bleeding, endometriosis). The medicine may also be prescribed for other conditions as advised by your health care provider.
Intake Instruction
Aygestin is prescribed for taking under your doctors’ control.
Please take the medicine with meals or without it.
Taking the medicine at the same fixed times every day, with doses not logger than 24 hours between.
Please ask your health care provider how to use the medicine.
Drug Category and Mechanism
Aygestin represents a progestin hormone. It functions by changing the lining of the uterus.
Missed Dose
Should you miss a dose of this medicine please take it asap. If you find you have missed the previous dosage when it is almost time for your next dose, you should better skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Taking double or extra doses at once is not recommended. If more than one dose is missed, please contact your attending medical doctor or health care provider.
Storage
The best conditions to keep the medicine at are to store them at 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C) room temperature. The container where the medicine is stored should be tightly closed. It should be also strictly protected from moisture, heat and light.
Please make sure to keep Amantadine out of the reach of children and pets.
Safety Precautions
Taking the medicine is not recommended in case:
pregnant or planning to become
breast-feeding mothers
you have allergic reaction to any component in Aygestin;
you have unexplored abnormal vaginal bleeding;
you have a history of severe blood clots
you have a breast cancer;
you have low level of liver function or active liver disease.
Please inform your health care provider if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of these are applicable to you.
Crucial Information:
Aygestin may cause giddiness. This effect may worsen if you take the medicine with alcohol or some categories of medicines. Please use Aygestin with precaution.
Do not drive, use machinery, or do any actions which require mental alertness until you certainly inform how this medicine may affect you.
Aygestin may be the reason for occurence of dark skin patches on your face. Please do not stay in the sun, under sunlamps, or tanning booths as you do not know how you react to Aygestin. Make sure to use a sunscreen or wear protective clothing in case you have to be outside for a long time.
Aygestin may intersect with some categories of lab tests. Make sure that your health care provider and lab personnel knows exactly you are taking Aygestin.
Diabetes patients - Aygestin may have an impact on your blood sugar. Please make sure to make control over your blood sugar levels closely.
Also inform your health care provider if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of these are applicable to you.
Aygestin must not be used in children; safety and potency in children was not yet confirmed.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Never use Aygestin while pregnant. In case you think you can be pregnant, please immediately contact your health care provider. Aygestin outfalls into breast milk. In case you are or planning to be breast-feeding while being treated with Aygestin, please turn to your physician for a preliminary consultation.
Probable Side Effects
Please immediately consult your health care provider on any side effect which seems uncommon or that is especially bothersome.
acne; menstrual cycle changes, bleeding, spotting, or missed cycles; giddiness; weariness; an abnormally high body temperature; headache; hot flashes; emesis; irritation; pain; rash; stomach pain; problems with sleeping; weakness; weight gain or loss.

austere allergic reactions (eruption; hives; itching; hard breathing; tenseness in the thorax; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); thorax pain; state of depression; sick headache; vision changes; insufficiency of breath; slurred speech; unexpected loss of coordination; unexpected or severe headache; unexpected severe headache, giddiness, emesis, or fainting; swelling of fingers or ankles; frailty, pain, or swelling of the calf; weariness, anemia, or pain in the arms or legs; yellowing of the skin or eyes.
