Drug Uses
Minocycline is used for treating certain infections. It may also be used with other medicines to treat severe acne, or for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Intake Instructions
Please use the medicine under you health care provider’s strict control. Necessarily perform a check up of the label on the medicine for learning exact dosing instructions. There are certain brands of the medicine which you may intake with food. Others categories should be taken on an empty stomach. Please take the medicine by mouth with food or without it.
Intake of Minocycline is recommended with a full glass of water (8 oz/240 mL). Never lie down for 30 minutes after taking the medicine.
Please note that if you take bismuth salts simultaneously with the treatment course with Minocycline (eg, bismuth subsalicylate), calcium salts (eg, calcium carbonate), colestipol, iron salts (eg, iron sulfate), urinary alkalinizers (eg, daily antacids), vitamins/minerals, quinapril, didanosine, or zinc salts (eg, zinc sulfate), please avoid taking them within 2 to 3 hours before or after the intake of Minocycline. Perform a consultation with your health care provider fore more clarifications on the issue.
To entirely fight your infection, you should take Minocycline necessarily for the full course of treatment. Make sure to continue taking it even if you feel actual improvement in a few days. Minocycline has best effects if taken at fixed times every day.
Drug Category and Mechanism
Minocycline represents a category of a tetracycline antibiotic. This medicine works by decreasing the growth of certain category of bacteria and allowing the body's immune system to fight against them.
Missed Dose
Should you miss a dose of this medicine please take it asap. If you find you have missed the previous dosage when it is almost time for your next dose, you should better skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Taking double or extra doses at once is not recommended. If more than one dose is missed, please contact your attending medical doctor or health care provider.
The best conditions to keep the medicine is at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C). Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is allowed. The container where the medicine is stored should be tightly closed. The medicine should be also strictly protected from moisture, heat and light. Keep away from children and pets
Safety Precautions
Taking the medicine is not recommended in case:
you have allergic reactions to any component in Minocycline;
you are passing the treatment course with acitretin, an aluminum salt (e.g., aluminum carbonate), isotretinoin, methoxyflurane, or a penicillin.

Some medical conditions may interact with Minocycline. Inform your health care provider or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following are applicable to you:
you are pregnant/planning to become pregnant
you are a breast-feeding mother
you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine,
you are passing the treatment course with herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
you have allergic reactions to medicines, foods, or other substances
you have kidney troubles
you have an autoimmune disfunctions (eg, lupus)
There are some MEDICINES that step into INTERACTION with Minocycline. Please inform your health care provider if you take some medicines, including:
Aluminum salts (eg, aluminum carbonate) or cimetidine as they are liable to decrease Minocycline 's effectiveness
Acitretin, anticoagulants (eg, warfarin), digoxin, ergot alkaloids (eg, ergotamine), insulin, isotretinoin, methotrexate, methoxyflurane, or theophyllines as the risk of their side effects may actually grow by Minocycline
Live oral typhoid vaccine, oral contraceptives (birth control pills), as well as penicillins as their effectiveness may be levelled down by Minocycline
Probable Side Effects

giddiness; drowsiness; weariness; appetite loss; emesis; stomach upset; retching.

Austere allergic reactions (rash; hives; pruritic condition; hard breathing; tenseness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); bloody stools; changes in vision; bulging soft spots in infants; an abnormally high body temperature; headache; high level pressure in the head; excitement of the pancreas (increased pulse, emesis, stomach tenseness, retching); joint pain; muscle pain or weariness; red, swollen, blistered, or husking skin; ringing in the ears; convulsions; austere diarrhea; austere skin reaction to the sun; stomach pain/cramps; problems swallowing; unusual tiredness or weakness; vaginal irritation or discharge; yellowing of the skin or eyes.
