Drug Uses
Uroxatral helps in curing symptoms of BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia) in males having an enlarged prostate. However, you can also take it for other purpose if directed by your doctor to do so.
How Taken
Take this medication as recommended by your doctor.
- Take Uroxatral orally with food. Take it with any of your meals on routine basis.
- Swallow it completely. Avoid breaking, crushing or chewing before swallowing.
- Take everyday with any one of your meals, as adhering to a same time schedule will help you remember the exact time of taking Uroxatral.
- For best results follow a routine schedule when it comes to taking Uroxatral.

Drug Class and Mechanism
Uroxatral is defined as an alpha-blocker, which proves its effectiveness by blocking receptors present in your lower urinary tract. As a result, the smooth muscles in your prostate and bladder relax. It is due to this relaxation that the flow of urine improves, thereby lowering the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Missed Dose
In case you miss a dosage of this medication, prefer taking it when you remember. However, if you find that it is almost the time for the next dosage, prefer skipping the missed dosage followed by returning to the normal dosing plan. Avoid going for two dosages at one go.
Storage
Uroxatral needs to be stored at room temperature, somewhere between 68 -77 degrees F and 20 -25 degrees C. Don’t store it close to moisture, heat, and light. Keep this medicine at a safe distance from children and pets.
Warnings Precautions
Avoid taking Uroxatral if:
- You find yourself allergic to any ingredient present in Uroxatral
- You suffer from moderate or severe liver disease
- You take an azole antifungal such as ketoconazole, an alpha-blocker such as prazosin, or an HIV protease inhibitor such as ritonavir.

- Uroxatral may lead to dizziness, drowsiness, or lightheadedness. These effects can worsen if you are taking alcohol or certain medications simultaneously. Take Uroxatral with care. Avoid driving as well as performing any other unsafe acts till you are aware of the ways of reacting to them.
- Uroxatral may lead to lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting; exercise, hot weather, alcohol, or fever can heighten these effects. For maintaining a safe distance from these effects, prefer sitting up or standing slowly, particularly after you get up early in the morning.
- Keep off from situations where injury mat take place because of fainting.
- Stop taking Uroxatral and consult your doctor if you experience chest pain and in case it continues for a prolonged period.
- Don’t give Uroxatral to kids, as its effectiveness in them hasn’t yet been proven.
- If you become pregnant, consult your doctor before taking this medicine. Discuss with your doctor the pros as well as cons of taking this medicine while pregnant. It is not yet known whether this medicine is passes into breast milk or not. If you breast feed then do consult with your doctor before taking this medicine. Make sure that this medicine doesn’t cause harm to your baby in any way.

- Prolonged, painful erection
- Persistent or severe dizziness
- Abdominal or stomach pain
- Abnormal weakness or fatigue
