Drug Instruction
Mestinon is prescribed for treating myasthenia gravis. The medicine may also be determined for using in patients with other conditions as advised by your health care provider.
Intake Instruction
Please make sure to take Mestinon as predetermined by your health care provider.
Mestinon may be taken with the intake of food or without it.
Make sure to intake Mestinon with food in case you feel it actually upsets your stomach.
Also necessarily consult your health care provider for any information which you are in need concerning the use and safety precautions of the medicine.
Drug Category and Mechanism
Mestinon is a cholinesterase inhibitor. It has its effects by providing an improved level of nerve impulses in muscles so that the muscles are better able to function.
Missed Dose
Should you miss a dose of this medicine please take it asap. If you find you have missed the previous dosage when it is almost time for your next dose, you should better skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Taking double or extra doses at once is not recommended. If more than one dose is missed, please contact your attending medical doctor or health care provider.
Storage
The best conditions to keep the medicine are to store them between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C). The container where the medicine is stored should be tightly closed. It should be also strictly protected from moisture, heat and light.
Please make sure to keep medicine out of the reach of children and pets.
Safety Precautions
Taking the medicine is not recommended in case:
have allergic reactions to any component in Mestinon;
you are taking cinchona bark or quinidine;
you have a stomach, enteric, or urinary blockage .
Please inform your health care provider if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of these are applicable to you.
Crucial information:
Before you have any medical or dental treatments, as well as emergency care, or surgery, please inform your health care provider or dentist that you are using Mestinon.
Please also make sure to have a preliminary consultation with your health care provider on the use of Mestinon with extreme caution in children. Safety and effectiveness of this medicine in children have not yet ben explored.
In case you become pregnant while taking Mestinon, immediately consult your health care provider the benefits and risks of using Mestinon while being pregnant. Mestinon outfalls into breast milk. Thus make sure to consult with your health care provider if you are breast-feeding at the time of treatment with Mestinon, and discuss the risks to your child.
Probable Side Effects
Please make sure to consult with your health care provider if any of these most common side effects are persistent or become bothersome:
severe allergic reactions (rash; urticaria; itching; hard breathing; tenseness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); blue color of the fingers or toes; chest pain or tensity; cold or pale fingers or toes; diarrhea; giddiness; hallucinations; headache; extraordinary heartbeat; leg cramps or state of being weak; mental or mood changes; muscle pain; anemia or pricking of the hands, feet, or skin; ringing in the ears; convulsions; austere or persistent nausea or emesis; hard breathing; swelling; provisional fast or slow heartbeat; emesis; weak pulse.
