Drug Uses
Proscar is taken to prevent the testosterone transformation to DHT (dihydrotestosterone). Dihydrotestosterone is associated with BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia ) progression. This medicine treats benign prostatic hyperplasia symptoms in those men who have enlarged prostate.
Sometimes it may be taken for some other conditions as directed by your doctor.
How Taken
Take the medication as determined by your doctor. Read the medicine label for precise dosing instructions carefully.
The usual dose is one capsule a day. As a rule, Proscar is taken by mouth with food or without it. In case you have a stomach upset, it should be taken with food for reducing the irritation of stomach. Use the drug with a glass of water following the directions of your doctor. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.

Drug Class and Mechanism
This enzyme inhibitor lowers DHT (dihydrotestosterone) levels. This hormone is known to cause the growth of prostate. When levels of dihydrotestosterone lower the enlarged prostate gland shrinks.
Missed Dose
Take this medicine as determined by your doctor. If you omit a dose of Proscar, take it immediately. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up. Then go back to your usual schedule.
Storage
Keep the medication at room temperature, below 30 degrees C (86 degrees F). Keep in a hermetic and light-resistant container. Store Proscar away from light, heat and moisture. Do not store it in the bathroom. Save this remedy beyond the reach of children and away from pets.
Warnings Precautions
Sometimes certain medical conditions interact with Proscar . Tell your pharmacist or doctor in case you have the following medical conditions:
if you have allergies to its ingredients;
if you have liver problems;
if you have prostate cancer;
if you have disorder of a bladder muscle;
if you are cannot urinate.
Children and women must not take Proscar. It is very dangerous for them by reason of being absorbed into the skin. Children and women must not even handle these capsules. In case children or women come into contact with Proscar tablets they should bathe the affected area immediately.
Possible Side Effects
Ask for medical attention immediately in case any of these serious side effects take place:
serious allergic reactions (chest tightness; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; rash; hives; difficulty breathing); irregular heartbeat; changes in behavior.
Inform your doctor in case the following side effects take place: tremor; severe headache; dizziness; nervousness; flushing of skeen etc.
If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
More Information
This medication should be taken only by those patients for whom it is prescribed. You should not give it to others. If your symptoms become worse and do not improve, contact your doctor.
