Drug Uses
Yasmin is a medicine used to prevent pregnancy. Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) may also be treated. It may be used for some other treatment as determined by your doctor.
How Taken
- Use Yasmin orally with or without food.
- Consult your doctor about the method of usage of Yasmin. If you start the first pack within 24 hours of your Period then you have no need use any other contraceptive. If you start Yasmin after the start of Period then you will have to use an extra birth control contraceptive for the next seven days.
- Consult your doctor if you wish to change your birth control pill to Yasmin. Remember to switch over to Yasmin immediately after the end of the last pack of the previous drug.
- Remember to take Yasmin at the same time daily. Do not miss a single day.

Drug Class and Mechanism
Yasmin checks ovulation, thickening of the mucus in the cervix and change of the lining of the uterus. It is a birth control pill which is a combination of estrogen and progesterone.
Missed Dose
Take Yasmin immediately if you have forgotten one dose. Take your next dose at the scheduled time. You may take 2 doses in one day. Don’t worry if you have missed 1 dose. If more than 1 dose has been skipped then refer to the extra patient leaflet included with the pack. You may use a back up device like a condom if you can’t understand how to deal with skipped doses. Consult your doctor for details.
Storage
Yasmin should be stored at room temperature (68-77 Degree F/ 20-25 Degree C), away from moisture, heat and light. Keep it out of the reach of children.
Warnings Precautions
Never use Yasmin if:
- You are pregnant or going to be
- You are allergic to any component of the drug
- You have a kidney disease, liver disorder, or any sort of heart problems
- You have Porphyria, high BP, Diabetes, vaginal cancer, or undiagnosed excessive vaginal bleeding
- You have certain blood vessel problems ( bleeding in the brain, stroke, heart attack), or breast cancer
- You smoke more than 15 cigarettes daily and above 35 years of age
- You are confined to a chair or bed after any surgery

Note:
- Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Avoid Yasmin if you are pregnant or if you are going to be pregnant. Yasmin is found in breast milk therefore do not breast-feed while you are using Yasmin.
- Diabetes patients - Yasmin could affect your blood sugar level. Check your blood sugar levels regularly. Ask your doctor if you change the dose of your diabetes medicine.
- Yasmin could not prevent spreading of HIV or any other STD. If you have HIV or STD then use condom.
- Examine your breasts regularly. If notice any hardness or lump, do inform your doctor immediately.
- Do not smoke while using Yasmin. It may increase the risk of heart attack, stroke, Blood clots or high BP.
- Bleeding or spotting may occur, consult your doctor.
- If you had irregular periods, then you may have a delay in getting pregnancy after using Yasmin.
- Check yourself regularly so that any side effect may be diagnosed.
- Keep medicine supply in order so that you never miss any dose.
- If you use contact lenses and any problem occurs in vision, then consult your doctor.
- Start tasking Yasmin at least after 4-6 months after giving birth.
- Use sun screen protection if patches appear on your face. Avoid direct sun rays.
- Use of certain medicines like antibiotics, medicines for seizures, or during conditions of vomiting may reduce the effectiveness of the drug. Therefore use a back up for intercourse.
- Stop Yasmin at least one month before any surgery.
- If your Period is delayed or you feel any other pregnancy symptoms, then consult your doctor.
Possible Side Effects
You may suffer from some common side effects. If it continues then talks to your doctor:
- Vomiting, nausea, breast tenderness
- Bleeding between menstrual periods
- Stomach cramps
- Weight gain
Remember to consult your doctor immediately if any of these grave side effects crop up:
- Depression, migraines
- Liver problems- yellowing of skin, eyes, fever, dark urine pale stools and loss of appetite
Any sort of allergic reactions
- Severe vaginal bleeding
- Severe stomach pain
- Swelling of face and mouth, fingers, arms and legs
- Sudden vomiting
- Headache and drowsiness
- Pain in chest, coughing of blood, irregular heart beat
- Miss menstrual period
More Information
No one else other than the patient should use Yasmin. If your conditions fail to improve or worsen then take advice of your doctor.
