Drug Instruction
Periactin is prescribed for the treatment of sneezing; wet nose; itching, watery eyes; urticaria; rashes; itching; and other categories of allergies and the general cold.
Although not approved by the FDA for this purpose, Periactin has been prescribed to incite appetite in patients weighing less than is average.
Periactin may also be determined for purposes other than those listed in this medication leaflet.
Intake Instructions
Please use the medicine under you health care provider’s strict control. Necessarily perform a check up of the label on the medicine for learning exact dosing instructions.
Take each dose of the medicine with a full glass of water.
Periactin can be taken with food or without it.
To guarantee that you get a normal dose, measure the syrup form of Periactin with a special dose-measuring spoon or cup, not with a common tablespoon. In case you do not possess a dose-measuring device, please make sure to ask your pharmacist to help you to obtain the one.
Never take more of this medication predetermined for you. The maximum amount of Periactin that you should take in 1 day is 32 mg.

Missed Dose
Should you miss a dose of this medicine please take it asap. If you find you have missed the previous dosage when it is almost time for your next dose, you should better skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Taking double or extra doses at once is not recommended. If more than one dose is missed, please contact your attending medical doctor or health care provider.
Storage
It should be also strictly protected from moisture, heat and light. Please make sure to retain the medicine away from pets and children.
Safety Precautions
Taking the medicine is not recommended in case:
you have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), or tranylcypromine (Parnate) in the last 14 days. A quite severe drug interaction could occur, which may lead to crucial side effects. Before taking this medication, please inform your health care provider if you have
glaucoma or high level of pressure in the eye;
a stomach ulcer;
an growth of prostate, bladder problems, or hard urinating;
an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism);
hypertension or any type of heart failure; or
asthma.
You may not be able to take cyproheptadine, or you may require a lower dose or special control during treatment if you have any of the medical conditions provided above.
Probable Side Effects
Please make sure to stop taking Periactin and seek emergency medical attention in case you face an allergic reaction (hard breathing; sore throat; tumor of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives).
Other, low levelled serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Please make sure to continue taking the medicine and consult your health care provider if you experience:
Sleepiness, vertigo, or giddiness;
headache;
sore mouth; or
hard urinating or an enlarged prostate.
