Drug Uses
Prednisone helps to treat the following diseases: arthritis, asthma, sclerosis (multiple), allergies, skin conditions. Sometimes it may be taken for some other conditions as directed by your doctor.
How Taken
Take the medication as determined by your doctor. Read the medicine label for precise dosing instructions carefully.
As a rule, Prednisone is taken by mouth with food or without it. In case you have a stomach upset, it should be taken with food for reducing the irritation of stomach. Use the drug with a glass of water following the directions of your doctor.

Drug Class and Mechanism
Being a corticosteroid, this medication prevents/decreases tissues from reacting to inflammations. Prednisone can modify reaction of the body to some stimulations of immunity.
Missed Dose
If you omit a dose of Prednisone, take it immediately. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up. Then go back to your usual schedule.
Storage
Keep Prednisone at room temperature, between 20 and 25 degrees C (68 and 77 degrees F). Keep in a hermetic and light-resistant container. Store it away from light, heat and moisture. Do not store it in the bathroom. Store this remedy beyond the reach of children and pets.
Warnings Precautions
You must not take this medicine in such cases:
you have allergies to its ingredients;
you are using mifepristone;
you suffer a fungal infection.
Contact your health care provider/doctor immediately in case some of these apply to you.
There are some medical conditions interacting with Prednisone. Inform your health care provider in case you have the following conditions:
you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant;
you are breast-feeding;
if you have problems with or heart, gastritis, esophagitis;
if you havehave had mental problems;
you are currently using some herbal preparation, certain dietary supplement
or prescription/nonprescription medicine,
you are allergic to some substances (medicines, foods etc.)
if you have a chickenpox, any infection (of any type); have/have had tuberculosis or measles;
if you are planning to have a live vaccination;
if you have an ulcerative colitis, problems with kidney or liver, underactive thyroid or diabetes.
There are some medications interacting with Prednisone. Inform your health care provider in case you are currently taking any other medicines, especially the following ones:
Side effects of ritodrine or methotrexate may be heightened.
Efficiency of live vaccinations, hydantoins and mifepristone may be lowered.
Carbamazepine, hydantoins, barbiturates, rifampin may decrease effectiveness of Prednisone.
After using steroidal contraceptives, clarithromycin azole antifungals and troleandomycin simultaneously with Prednisone certin side effects may take place.
The actions of aspirin or anticoagulants may be changed.
Possible Side Effects
All medicines may provoke certain side effects. Nevertherless, many people have no/ minor side effects. Contact your doctor if any of these side effects take place:
changes with mood ; nervousness;; indigestion; trouble sleeping; increased appetite etc.
Ask for medical attention immediately in case any of these serious side effects take place:
serious allergic reactions (chest tightness; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; rash; hives; difficulty breathing); feet/legs swelling; rapid gain of weight/ weight loss; weakness; fever; body discomfort; headache; loss of appetite; dizziness; high eye pressure; pain in joint/muscle; sore throat; nausea; changed stools; menstrual periods changes; convulsions; depression; diarrhea; vomiting.
More Information
Prednisone should be taken only by those patients for whom it is prescribed. You should not give it to others.
