Drug Instructions
Avandamet is prescribed for treating type 2 diabetes. The medicine is prescribed for using along with diet and exercise. It may be taken alone or with other antidiabetic preparates.
Intake Instructions
Use Avandamet as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.
Take Avandamet by mouth with meals.
Take Avandamet on a regular schedule to get the most benefit from it. Taking Avandamet at the same time each day will help you remember to take it.
Continue to take Avandamet even if you feel well. Do not miss any doses.
Drug Class and Mechanism
Avandamet is prescribed for taking under your doctors’ control.
It functions by low levelling the amount of sugar that the liver performs and the intestines absorb. Avandamet also helps to make your body more susceptible to the insulin that you naturally perform.
Missed Dose
Should you miss a dose of this medicine please take it asap. If you find you have missed the previous dosage when it is almost time for your next dose, you should better skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Taking double or extra doses at once is not recommended. If more than one dose is missed, please contact your attending medical doctor or health care provider.
Storage
The best conditions to keep the medicine at are 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) to store them at room temperature. Brief storage from 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) is allowed. The container where the medicine is stored should be tightly closed. It should be also strictly protected from moisture, heat and light. Please make sure to keep Amantadine out of the reach of children and pets.
Safety Precautions
Taking the medicine is not recommended in case:
you have allergic reactions to any component in Avandamet
you have type 1 diabetes
you had/have moderate to severe heart failure
you have/ severe infection, low blood oxygen levels, kidney or liver troubles, high blood ketone or acid levels (eg, diabetic ketoacidosis), as well as type of diabetic eye problem (macular edema)
history of a stroke or a recent heart attack,
you are 80 years old or more
you are scheduled for having surgery or lab procedures
you have liver problems,
you are taking insulin

you have a history of heart attack, abnormal liver function tests, lung or breathing troubles, thyroid problems, stomach or bowel troubles (eg, paralysis, blockage, vision problems, or lactic acidosis
you have fluid-retaining ability or swelling troubles, emesis, poor health or nutrition, low blood calcium or vitamin B12 levels, or anemia
you have an infection, an abnormally high body temperature, recent wound, or mild to severe burns
you take alcohol or have a history of alcohol abuse
you are scheduled to have a surgery or certain lab procedures
you are taking a beta-blocker (eg, propranolol)

Insulin or nitrates (eg, nitroglycerin) as the risk of heart problems becomes higher,
Amiloride, digoxin, procainamide, quinine, ranitidine, triamterene, , or vancomycin because they may make the risk high levelledof Avandamet 's side effects
Calcium channel blockers (eg, nifedipine), corticosteroids (eg, prednisone), diuretics (eg, furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide), hormonal contraceptives (eg, birth control pills), nicotinic acid, oral antidiabetics (eg, glipizide), phenytoin, sympathomimetics (eg, albuterol, pseudoephedrine), or thyroid hormones (eg, levothyroxine) as the risk of high or low blood sugar may be high – levelled
Gemfibrozil as it may increase the risk of Avandamet 's side effects Rifampin as it may low level Avandamet 's potency, resulting in high level of sugar in blood
Anticoagulants (eg, warfarin) as their potency may be low levelled or the risk of their side effects may be high levelled by Avandamet
Probable Side Effects
Please discuss with your health care provider if any of the mentioned most COMMON side effects afterglow or become or causing bother:
attention discomposure; vision problems; changes in weight; sluggishness; infrequent or hard evacuation of the bowels; low level of appetite; decreased sex drive; diarrhea; giddiness; somnolence; dry mouth; flu; headache; deteriorated coordination/balance; high level salivation; articulation pain; lightheadedness; emesis; irritation; pounding in the thorax; fast heartbeat; energized condition; skin inflammation; insomnia; sweating; unsteadiness; uncommon weakness; retching; weakness.

austere allergic reactions (rash; hives; hard breathing; tenseness in the thorax; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); the state of depressing; fainting; unintentional movements; memory worsening.
