Drug Instruction
Amaryl is used for treating type 2 diabetes in some patients who cannot manage blood sugar levels by diet as well as exercise alone. It is prescribed for using along with diet and exercise. The medicine may also be prescribed for taking alone or with other antidiabetic medicines.
Intake Instruction
Amaryl is prescribed for taking under your doctors’ control.

Please take the medicine by mouth with breakfast or the first main meal in the day except of the case your health care provider tells you otherwise.
Amaryl functions best if you take it at fixed times each day. Please continue taking Amaryl even if you feel im improvement. Missing any doses is not recommended.
Drug Category and Mechanism
Amaryl is a sulfonylurea antidiabetic medicine. The medicine causes the pancreas to remit insulin, which helps to decrease blood sugar.
Missed Dose
Should you miss a dose of this medicine please take it asap. If you find you have missed the previous dosage when it is almost time for your next dose, you should better skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Taking double or extra doses at once is not recommended. If more than one dose is missed, please contact your attending medical doctor or health care provider.
Storage
The best conditions to keep the medicine at are to store them room temperature 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C). The container where the medicine is stored should be tightly closed. It should be also strictly protected from moisture, heat and light.
Please make sure to keep Amaryl out of the reach of children and pets.
Safety Precautions
Taking Amaryl is not recommended in case:
you have allergies to any component in Amaryl
you have certain serious problems with diabetes (eg, diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic coma)
you have mild to severe burns, as well as very high blood acid levels (acidosis)
you are treated with bosentan
Please inform your health care provider if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of these are applicable to you.
If you happen to be pregnant, or plan to be pregnant
are breast-feeding
if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
you have allergies to medicines, its components, foods, or other essences
(giddiness) to any other components or sulfonamide medicine, such as acetazolamide, celecoxib, certain diuretics (eg, hydrochlorothiazide), glipizide, sulfamethoxazole, valdecoxib, or zonisamide
you have a history of stroke or liver, kidney, thyroid, heart, as well as blood vessel troubles
you have stomach and bowel
take alcohol, or had poor nutrition
you have type 1 diabetes, you are sick, have an abnormally high body temperature, a severe infectious disease, severe diarrhea, or high blood acid levels, you had a severe injury
you have a history of certain hormonal troubles (eg. syndrome of incorrect secretion of antidiuretic hormone [SIADH]), or decreased blood sodium
you are scheduled to have a surgery
Some medical conditions may step into interaction with Amaryl. Please inform your health care provider if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of these are applicable to you.
Bosentan as liver problems may happen; the efficacy of both medicines may be lowered
Beta-blockers (eg, propranolol) as the risk of low blood sugar may become higher. They can also hide some signs of low level blood sugar as well as make it harder to notice
Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors (eg, enalapril), anticoagulants (eg, warfarin), azole antifungals (eg, miconazole, ketoconazole), chloramphenicol, fenfluramine insulin, metformin, monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors, phenylbutazone, probenecid, quinolone antibiotics (eg, ciprofloxacin), salicylates (eg, aspirin), or sulfonamides (eg, sulfamethoxazole) as the risk of decreased blood sugar may occur
Calcium channel blockers (eg, diltiazem), decongestants (eg, pseudoephedrine), diazoxide, estrogens, hormonal contraceptives (eg, family planning pills), isoniazid, niacin, , phenytoin, rifamycins (eg, rifampin), or thyroid supplements (eg, levothyroxine) as they may lower Amaryl 's efficacy with the result in high blood sugar
Gemfibrozil as blood sugar may be lowered or increased
