Deltasone (Prednisone)
Drug Uses
Deltasone is used for healing serious allergies, multiple sclerosis, skin conditions, arthritis, asthma. It is also used for some other conditions as directed by your doctor.
How Taken
Take Deltasone as determined by your doctor. Check the medicine label for proper dosing instructions. Take it by mouth with food.
This medication is bought as a dose pack with exact instructions as to how much to take it or when to take the medicine. You must follow all instructions as closely as possible. Do not miss doses of Deltasone.
Drug Class and Mechanism
Deltasone is considered to be a corticosteroid. It decreases or prevent tissues from responding to inflammation. It is able to modifie response of body to some immune stimulation.
Missed Dose
If you omit a dose of Deltasone, take it immediately. If you do not remember until later, skip the missed dose and follow your everyday dosing schedule. Do not take two doses of Deltasone at once.
Storage
Keep Deltasone at room temperature 20-25 degrees C (68-77 degrees F), and store it away from moisture and light.
Warnings Precautions
Do not use Deltasone if:
you have a fungal infection;
you are taking mifepristone;
you are allergic to some Deltasone ingredients.
Tell your doctor or health care provider as soon as any of these apply to you.
Sometimes certain medical conditions interact with Deltasone. Inform your pharmacist or doctor if you have the following medical conditions:
if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant;
if you are breast-feeding;
if you have or have had mental problems;
if you have any type of infection;
if you have or have had TB (tuberculosis) or tested positive for TB, chickenpox, measles;
if you have liver or kidney problems, diabetes, an underactive thyroid, ulcerative colitis;
if you have problems with heart, stomach obstruction or perforation, an ulcer, esophagitis or gastritis;
if you are taking any prescription/nonprescription medicine, dietary supplement or herbal preparation;
if you have allergies to medicines or foods;
if you are scheduled for a vaccination with a live virus vaccine.
Some medications interact with Deltasone. Inform your health care provider in case you are currently taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:
Ritodrine or methotrexate because the actions, side effects of these medications may be heightened.
Live vaccines, hydantoins or mifepristone because the effectiveness of these medications may be lowered.
Aspirin or anticoagulants because their side effects and actions may be decreased/ increased.
Rifampin, barbiturates, carbamazepine or hydantoins because the effectiveness of Deltasone may be heightened.
Troleandomycin or clarithromycin azole antifungals steroidal contraceptives by reason of their side effects (muscle aches, joint pain, weakness, confusion, low blood sugar).
Possible Side Effects
Though medications may effect certain side effects, many people have no/ minor side effects. Address your doctor if any of these side effects take place:
indigestion; mood changes; difficulty sleeping; whirling motion; increased appetite; increased sweating.
Ask for medical attention immediately if any of these serious side effects happen:
severe allergic reactions (chest tightness; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; rash; hives; difficulty breathing); loss of appetite; black and tarry stools; changes in menstrual periods; convulsions; headache; high pressure in the eye; joint or muscle pain; mood swings; muscle weakness; swelling of feet, legs; rapid weight gain; weakness; weight loss; depression; diarrhea; dizziness; fever; general body discomfort; prolonged sore throat; face puffing; nausea; vomiting.
