Drug Instruction
Nexium low levels the quantity of acid performed in the stomach. Nexium is prescribed for the treatment of symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) as well as other medical conditions involving excessive stomach acid such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. The medicine is also prescribed to promote curing of erosive esophagitis (damage to your esophagus caused by stomach acid).
Please note that Nexium may also be prescribed for the prevention of gastric ulcer which is generally caused by infection with helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), or by the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Intake instructions
Please use the medicine under you health care provider’s strict control.
You can take the medicine by mouth with food or without it.
Please make sure to intake the medicine around the same time every day.
Perform a preliminary check with your health care provider or pharmacist to explore if your medicine is a brand that has such a use instruction.
Drug Category and Mechanism
Nexium is a proton pump decelerator. It effects by stepping down the quantity of acid made in the stomach.
Missed Dose
Should you miss a dose of this medicine please take it asap. If you find you have missed the previous dosage when it is almost time for your next dose, you should better skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Taking double or extra doses at once is not recommended. If more than one dose is missed, please contact your attending medical doctor or health care provider.
Storage Instructions
Make sure to store Nexium at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C). The container where the medicine is stored should be tightly closed. It should be also strictly protected from moisture, heat and light. Please keep away the medicine away from pets and children.
Safety Precautions
Taking the medicine is not recommended in case:
you have allergic reactions to any component in Nexium or to alike medicines (e.g., omeprazole);
you are taking an HIV protease inhibiter (e.g., atazanavir).
Please inform your health care provider if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of these are applicable to you.
Crucial Information :
Please remember that Nexium may cause giddiness or dizziness. The mentioned effects may get worse if you take Nexium with alcohol or several categories of medicines. Make sure to intake Nexium with caution.
Do not drive, use machinery, or do any actions which require mental alertness until you certainly inform how this medicine may affect you.
Please inform your health care provider if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of these are applicable to you:
Symptoms of a bleeding ulcer, such as dark, tarry stools
Retching which looks like coffee grounds;
you face throat pain, chest ache, austere stomach pain, or problems with digestion and swallowing.
Nexium may intercross with certain lab tests. Please make sure your health care provider and lab personnel are aware you are using Esomeprazole.
Please also note that Nexium should be used with caution in Asian patients; as risk of side effects may be high levelled in the mentioned category of patients.
Nexium should be used with extreme caution in children; please stay away from safety and effectiveness in children have not yet explored.
If you become pregnant, please inform your health care provider. Please remember that you will be in need to have a conversation about the benefits and risks of using Nexium while you are pregnant. It is not yet explored known whether Nexium outfalls into breast milk. Please do not breast-feed at the period of using Nexium.
Probable Side Effects

infrequent or difficult evacuation of the bowels; diarrhea; sore mouth; gas; headache; emesis; pain, tumor, or redness at the injection site; stomach pain.
There are some MEDICINES that step into INTERACTION with Nexium. Please inform your health care provider if you take some medicines, including:
austere allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; hard breathing; tenseness in the chest; tumor of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; uncommon hoarseness); chest pain; fast heartbeat; an abnormally high body temperature, chills, or sore throat; red, swollen, fungous, or husking skin; unusual bruising or bleeding; unusual tiredness.
